The Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications, Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, told the Lok Sabha that the Government of India is working in “saturation mode” to achieve the vision of housing for all eligible rural households under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana – Grameen (PMAY-G).

Responding to a starred question, Dr. Sekhar announced that 4.12 crore houses have been sanctioned to states under PMAY-G, with 2.9 crore already completed. Since 2014, the Centre has released over ₹2.71 lakh crore towards the scheme, a dramatic rise from the ₹66 crore allocated in 2013–14.

2024 Awas Survey: First-of-its-Kind Features

Dr. Sekhar highlighted that the 2024 Awas Survey introduces two groundbreaking features in India’s rural housing mission:

  1. e-KYC Verification – For seamless beneficiary authentication.

  2. Aadhaar-Based Geo-Tagged Self-Registration – Enabling an individual to stand on their land, take a geo-tagged photograph, and register instantly.

“These features ensure transparency, empower citizens, and guarantee that no eligible rural family is left without a home,” the Minister stressed.

State & Public Participation is Key

Calling for active involvement from States and Union Territories, Dr. Sekhar said that achieving the saturation target will require maximum public participation and on-ground coordination.

PMAY-G’s Decade of Impact

Over the last decade, PMAY-G has transformed from a basic rural housing scheme into a tech-driven, citizen-centric mission, delivering:

  • 2.9 crore completed houses with essential amenities.

  • Transparent fund allocation of ₹2.71 lakh crore since 2014.

  • Real-time digital monitoring and verification systems.

  • Beneficiary empowerment through direct registration and authentication.

Socio-Economic Upliftment

PMAY-G’s success has gone beyond providing shelter — it has stimulated local employment, boosted construction-related industries, and enhanced rural health, education, and social stability. The latest tech-enabled features aim to ensure every deserving family benefits without delays or discrepancies.
