Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, has delivered a hat-trick on the sustainability front by securing the 2nd rank worldwide in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) for the aluminium industry. Achieving this feat for the third consecutive year, the company has also secured its highest-ever score of 84/100 in the assessment. This continued leadership reflects Vedanta Aluminium's disciplined progress and underscores its commitment to embedding sustainability into the core of its business strategy.
The S&P Global CSA is widely regarded as one of the world’s most rigorous ESG benchmarks, evaluating companies identify across 62 industries on how effectively they manage and disclose material environmental, social, and governance risks and opportunities.
Commenting on the milestone, Priya Agarwal Hebbar, Non-Executive Director, Vedanta Limited, said, “Sustained leadership in the S&P Global CSA or the third consecutive year is a proud moment for Vedanta Aluminium and a reflection of the culture we are building. I congratulate our teams for their remarkable performance. For us, sustainability is embedded in how we operate, innovate, and grow. We are anchoring climate action, circularity and social stewardship at the heart of our business, and we see this recognition as a responsibility to keep raising the bar.”
Rajiv Kumar, CEO, Vedanta Aluminium, added, “Our consistent leadership in the S&P Global CSA demonstrates that strong ESG performance and business competitiveness go hand in hand. By integrating sustainability into our operations, from energy transition and resource efficiency to low-carbon product innovation, we are building resilience and cost advantage for the long term. Our backward integration strategy positions Vedanta Aluminium to serve the growing global demand for responsibly produced aluminium. I commend our teams for driving this transformation with discipline and purpose.”
Vedanta Aluminium’s Restora and Restora Ultra brands, India’s first low-carbon aluminium range, are produced using renewable energy and verified with a footprint of below 4 tCO₂e per tonne, meeting global thresholds for low-carbon aluminium and enabling greener supply chains. These offerings are central to Vedanta Aluminium’s target of achieving a 30% low-carbon aluminium portfolio by 2030, complemented by efficiency measures, clean-energy adoption and credible offsets, demonstrating how product innovation and operations decarbonisation move in lockstep.
As aluminium’s role grows across clean energy, mobility, and climate-resilient infrastructure, Vedanta Aluminium continues to advance its ESG commitments. In FY25, the company achieved about 8.96% reduction in GHG intensity since FY21, consumed 1.57 billion units of renewable energy, recycled 16.79 million m3 of water, and ensured 100% fly ash utilisation under its Waste-to-Wealth programme. Through initiatives like restoration of 64 community water bodies, afforestation drives, and clean energy interventions for rural households, Vedanta Aluminium is making sustainability integral to industrial growth, delivering responsibly produced, high-quality metal for India and the world.
