SVKM’s NMIMS commemorated World Intellectual Property Day 2025 with an engaging event on Saturday, 26th April 2025. The celebration showcased the impactful role of innovation, creativity and intellectual property in the academic sphere. The event was organised at the Mini Auditorium on the NMIMS Mumbai Campus. 

The enriching celebration sparkled with the presence of esteemed Chief Guest Dr. Milind V. Rane, Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Bombay. Dr. Milind has over 30 years’ experience as IIT Bombay Chair Professor in the Heat Pump Laboratory. The auditorium was adorned with distinguished dignitaries, faculty members and research scholars. 

Advisor to the President, SVKM, and mentor to the IPR Cell, Shri Ashoke Basak, Honourable Vice-Chancellor, NMIMS, Dr. Ramesh Bhat, Member of the Executive Committee, SVKM and the IPR Cell Steering Committee, Shri Nayan Patel and Honourable Secretary, SVKM, Dr. Jayant Gandhi shared the dias with the Chief Guest. The program commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and a Saraswati Vandana, invoking divine blessings for wisdom and creative inspiration. 

Following the felicitation of the Chief Guest, the panel of distinguished speakers, including Shri Asoke Basak, Dr. Ramesh Bhat, Shri Nayan Patel, and Dr. Jayant Gandhi, underscored the pivotal role of intellectual property in building stronger collaboration between academic institutions and the industrial sector. They highlighted how the NMIMS IPR Cell promotes a vibrant culture of innovation, creativity and legal safeguarding within the institution. 

Dr. Ramesh Bhat, lauding the IPR Cell, said, “The IPR Cell has played a vital role in increasing filings across patents, trademarks, designs, and copyrights. A strong research culture drives the advancement of knowledge, enriches teaching, boosts NMIMS’s standing and strengthens ties between academia and industry.” 

In a significant moment during the event, Dr. Jayant Gandhi officially released the Compendium of Intellectual Properties of SVKM alongside esteemed dignitaries. The release was followed by the felicitation of the SVKM IP Stars, celebrating individuals who have made exceptional contributions to innovation and intellectual property

development within the institution. A key highlight of the afternoon was an inspiring keynote address by the Chief Guest Dr. Milind, who delivered a session titled "Sustaining Innovation Through Licensing IP". 

A Vote of Thanks was given to conclude the grand celebration, followed by an enthusiastic rendering of the National Anthem. 

SVKM’s NMIMS stays firm in its commitment towards embracing emerging technologies, nurturing innovation, encouraging creativity and advancing intellectual property development within its academic ecosystem.
