SparxIT Promotes Cybersecurity Awareness Among University Students

SparxIT, a global AI-first tech partner, specialising in intelligent digital transformation and next-generation software solutions, recently conducted cybersecurity awareness sessions at Galgotias University and HRIT University, as part of its ongoing efforts to promote safe and responsible digital behaviour among students.

The sessions witnessed participation from over 100 students at each university and were designed to address the growing cybersecurity risks faced by young users in an increasingly digital academic and professional environment. Through interactive discussions and real-world examples, SparxIT’s team highlighted how cybercriminals often target students by exploiting routine online activities. During the sessions, students were introduced to key cybersecurity concepts, including data phishing and its various forms such as email phishing, SMS phishing (smishing), and voice-based scams (vishing). The discussions focused on how attackers impersonate trusted sources and create urgency to extract sensitive information, and how students can identify warning signs before falling victim to such attacks.

The program also covered malware awareness, with specific emphasis on ransomware, explaining how malicious software can infiltrate devices, lock users out of systems, and compromise personal and academic data. Students were guided on basic preventive measures such as avoiding suspicious links, keeping systems updated, and reporting unusual activity promptly.

Speaking on the initiative, Vikash Sharma, CEO, SparxIT, said, “Today’s students are among the most active digital users, which also makes them increasingly vulnerable to cyber threats. Through these awareness sessions, our focus is to shift cybersecurity from being seen as a purely technical concern to a shared responsibility driven by everyday digital behaviour. By helping young users identify risks such as phishing, malware, and unsafe password practices, we aim to empower them to navigate digital platforms more safely and confidently.”

A significant portion of the session was dedicated to password safety and account protection, where students learned about the importance of strong, unique passwords, the risks of password reuse, and the role of multi-factor authentication (MFA) and one-time passwords (OTP) in securing online accounts. Practical tips were shared to help students safeguard personal, academic, and financial information across platforms. The sessions encouraged students to view cybersecurity as a shared responsibility, highlighting that while technology provides a layer of protection, individual awareness and informed behaviour remain critical in preventing cyber incidents. Participants also received guidance on how and where to report cybercrime and suspicious digital activity.

Through these university engagements, SparxIT aims to contribute to building a more cyber-aware student community by equipping young users with practical knowledge that can help them navigate digital spaces more safely and confidently.
