Through the partnership, Mphasis will offer a grant of Rs. 2.5 Cr, funded over two years, supporting Ashoka India identify and support 50 youth Changemakers across the nation, between the ages of 12 to 20, who have in turn recognized their power to make a change and demonstrate it in the society.

Ashoka Young Changemaker (AYC) is a program that aims to identify individuals who exhibit the qualities of change-making, new leadership, empathy, and collaborative teamwork during their teen years to encourage and help them reach out to the public on a larger scale. These Changemakers provide awareness and knowledge to the public in numerous fields towards empowering them.

Speaking about the partnership, Srikanth Karra, Chief Human Resources Officer, Mphasis said, “Through this initiative with Ashoka, we hope to spark the ecosystem building process by enabling the youth to exercise empathy, creative problem solving, and teamwork to drive social change. By bringing their insights to bear upon major global issues, we hope not only to enable the youth to arrive at constructive solutions but also help create a resource pool for other young people to draw inspiration from and become changemakers themselves.”

Youth who are a part of this program come from various backgrounds ranging from rural to urban, and suburban to the metro, and work in diverse fields which include housing, sanitation, health, art, culture, education, mental health and more. AYC participants are youth who have found a solution to a problem faced by society at the grass-root level. As part of this initiative, these young individuals get to collaborate with organizations and institutions who are already part of the system and working to effect change.

“We are living in truly historic moments, in a world that is defined by change. Ashoka believes to thrive in this new world every young person needs to grow up as a changemaker - a person who steps up to solve problems for the good of all. It is critical for India’s future to have an ecosystem where young people could lead change from early on in life,” says Yashveer Singh, Global Director, Ashoka Young Changemakers.

Sunish Jauhari, India Leader of Ashoka stated that “The Mphasis-Ashoka partnership is a unique initiative to create role models for thousands of young teenagers in India to draw inspiration from. It will be a powerful demonstration of young people being the change they want to see in the society and lead by example.

We have just entered one of the most complex times in history. The pace of change around us – be it climate, migration or information revolution – is faster than ever before. Young people today need to have the right skills to deal with uncertainty and volatility staring at them. They have the inherent power to be Changemakers – a skill-set that will help them thrive in the future.”
