The Google-backed AI English-speaking coach, ELSA, announced an investment of over $1,000,000 in resources to combat the lack of language training afforded to staff in the airline industry and people working in the hospitality sector. The investment will be used for developing content, curriculum, and English training support for these sectors.

ELSA is sponsoring up to 100,000 workers within the airline and hospitality sectors through their English proficiency program, developed exclusively with top-tier providers.

A Lorman study has revealed that 76 percent of employees said a company would be more appealing if it offered additional skills training to staff, and retention rates would rise up to 30-50 percent for companies with strong learning cultures.

A holistic staff training program not only extends the horizon of opportunity for greater customer experience but allows employees to feel more valued. Subsequently, airlines seeking to retain their customer base can benefit from arming cabin crew and air traffic controllers with high-level English proficiency.

Growth Head at ELSA India Atul Mohan, said that, “Looking at the airline and hospitality sector bounce back, English language proficiency is a key asset in an employee’s repertoire. Indian tourism and hospitality industry have emerged as one of the key drivers of growth among the services sector in India.”

The hospitality sector accounts for 10.4% of global GDP and is expected to grow 4% year on year over the next decade. Equally, air transport is a major global employer supporting a total of 87.7 million jobs worldwide enabling $3.5 trillion in global GDP.

Training staff and investing in resources to improve communication skills is essential to revive the sector most affected by the pandemic. The ELSA app offers scalable and easy-to-integrate simulated training solutions, driving increased collaboration between cabin and cockpit crews.”
