Gujarat Government has decided to give 'Industry' status to the IT/ ITES sector of the state. A demand which has been made time and again by the industry associations from the IT sector.
In this regard, the Industries and Mines Department, Government of Gujarat has written a letter to the Department of Science and Technology, Gujarat requesting to take necessary action in providing industry status to IT sector.
In a letter, B S Mehta, Joint Secretary, Indstries and Mines Department of Gujarat wrote “Gujarat Electronics & Software Industries Association (GESIA) vide their letter dated 5.10.2017 requested to give IT sector as ‘Industry’ status.”
The letter was addressed to the Secretary, Science and Technology Department, Gujarat.
Mehta said that the state government has decided that IT/ITes may be given Industry status.
Besides, the state government has decided that for the purpose of Land Revenue Code, LR and Town Planning Act, Gujarat Municipal Corporation Act, it may be treated at par with Hotels, as these are though, production oriented, are clearly business units, Mehta pointed.
Recognizing the importance of IT as an integral part of industries, Mehta urged him to take necessary actions accordingly.
Mehta pointed in the letter that Chairman, Government Relation Committee, GESIA IT Association vide its letter on October 5, 2017 had requested to declare IT sector as Industry Status.
