Google Introduces TranslateGemma Built On Gemma 3

Google has announced TranslateGemma, a new collection of open translation models built on Gemma 3, supporting translation across 55 languages. Available in 4B, 12B and 27B parameter sizes, TranslateGemma is designed to deliver strong translation quality while remaining efficient enough to run across devices, from mobile phones to consumer laptops and cloud infrastructure.

According to Google’s evaluation, the 12B TranslateGemma model outperforms the larger Gemma 3 27B baseline on the WMT24++ benchmark, enabling high-quality translations with significantly fewer parameters. The models have also shown improved performance across high-, mid- and low-resource languages, as well as stronger results in translating text within images.

The release aims to provide researchers and developers with open, adaptable tools to build efficient translation systems and advance multilingual communication.
