Cosmoserve Space, a next-generation innovative space technology startup founded by Dr. Chiranjeevi Phanindra, a former ISRO scientist and Deputy Project Director of India’s Gaganyaan mission has raised $3.17 million in an oversubscribed pre-seed funding round, marking one of the largest-ever raises at the ideation stage for a space tech company. The company is developing autonomous robotic spacecraft designed to address the urgent global challenge of space debris, which threatens satellites, space stations and future exploration.
The round was led by Alan Rutledge, whose portfolio includes more than 20 unicorns along with strong participation from AUM Ventures and Shakti VC. In a major validation of Cosmoserve’s vision, Ram Shriram the renowned early investor in Google and a 25-year-old member of its board, has joined as a key investor, underscoring strong confidence in the company’s mission.
“We are thrilled to partner with such visionary investors who share our passion for creating a sustainable future in space,” said Dr. Chiranjeevi Phanindra, Founder and CEO of Cosmoserve Space. “This funding will accelerate our mission to develop cutting-edge solutions for space debris mitigation, ensuring safer and more sustainable orbital environments for future generations.”
Cosmoserve Space also enjoys the support of Pawan Kumar Chandana, co-founder of Skyroot Aerospace and a trailblazer in India’s private space ecosystem, whose expertise strengthens the company’s strategic direction.
Investors expressed their conviction in the company’s approach. “Cosmoserve Space is tackling one of the most pressing challenges in the space industry with a bold and innovative approach,” said Alan Rutledge. Ram Shriram added, “Space fuels human progress, but debris puts it at risk. Excited to back Cosmoserve Space, which is pioneering solutions to ensure a cleaner, sustainable space for generations to come.” Chetan Mehta of AUM Ventures commented, “With the global space economy accelerating and new satellite regulations taking shape, we believed in founder’s vision from day one.”
With this milestone, Cosmoserve Space is positioned as an emerging leader in the rapidly evolving space sustainability sector, with plans to redefine how the industry addresses orbital debris. The company is now set to make significant strides toward ensuring that space remains a safe and sustainable frontier for generations to come.
