State-run Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) entered into an agreement with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to foray into global airport business, especially in the Asia-Pacific region.

"The tie-up between the two companies will provide a platform to collaborate and support each other to address the emerging global opportunities in the airport business, especially in the APAC region," the city-based defence major said in a statement here.

As a development partner, the AAI will assist the BEL in domain expertise to execute civil aviation projects outside India.

"The partnership between the two organisations will be a game-changer in the Indian aviation sector. Making communication, navigation and surveillance equipment in India will reduce the cost, paving way for an 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat'," said AAI Chairman Arvind Singh.

The agreement was signed by BEL Executive Director Manoj Kumar and AAI General manager Sanjai Kumar Singhal at the latter's office in New Delhi.

BEL Chairman and Managing Director M.V. Gowtama said the partnership would provide synergy between the two state-run enterprises to jointly bid for projects in the aviation sector worldwide.

"With skills and expertise, we will jointly enter the domestic civil aviation market, the south-east Asian, African and South American aviation markets," added Singh.
