In advance of the Global DPI Summit 2025, Beckn Labs and Google Cloud announced the launch of Beckn Onix, a new open-source application that accelerates the development and adoption of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) built with the Beckn Protocol, and that has the potential to promote inclusive growth for individuals and communities in critical, population-scale sectors, including agriculture, healthcare, skilling, energy, tourism, and mobility and more.

Applications like Beckn Onix are critical because as governments and organizations increasingly adopt or look to build open networks, they face technical complexities connecting diverse, existing IT systems to these new protocols. Now with Beckn Onix, they can accomplish this without custom-built integrations that are expensive and difficult to maintain and scale.

Anil Bhansali, Vice President of Engineering, Google Cloud, said: "Open networks are the digital rails for the next generation of AI, and Beckn Onix is the catalyst for action: an organization that used to wait months to onboard can now start leveraging AI-driven solutions and creating new value for society in a fraction of that time. It provides the essential, secure and scalable infrastructure for AI-driven solutions to be deployed across diverse, high impact sectors like agriculture, healthcare, mobility, and more. It has the potential to empower millions of people in emerging markets around the world, from farmers to small business owners and entrepreneurs."

The Beckn protocol is an open, decentralized standard designed to revolutionize digital commerce by allowing buyers and sellers to interact and transact without a single, controlling platform or intermediary. By reducing the barriers to entry for merchants and sellers to create “open networks” to sell their goods and services, it aims to provide more opportunities for buyers and sellers at every level of the supply chain.

Setting up such open networks used to take a startup or organization four to five months to build. Beckn Onix represents the first, scalable, cloud-native implementation of the Beckn Protocol and is available today on Github. Governments and businesses using Beckn Onix can also integrate AI-native capabilities into Open Networks from day one using Google’s open source Agent Development Kit. This capability allows developers to immediately create easy-to-use agents that simplify complex workflows while seamlessly leveraging the power of Gemini, or any AI model of their choice.

Now, entrepreneurs and business owners, as well as  governments and public sector organizations can easily build an open network to connect diverse buyers and sellers within as little as 45 minutes.

Further, Beckn Onix also operates like a universal "adapter" or "bridge" enabling any organization's existing backend application to seamlessly and securely communicate with other platforms on an open network.

This is made possible by Beckn Onix’s flexible, plugin-based architecture that gives organizations maximum flexibility, allowing them to integrate their preferred services for functions like signing, storage, or monitoring. This approach empowers network participants to use the best tools for the job and enables a truly open, interoperable and extensible ecosystem.

"What’s unique about Beckn Onix is it serves as a common plug-and-play adaptor that enables network orchestrators and participants to tap into Beckn’s unique potential, moving beyond the need for separate protocols in every sector and avoiding the inefficiency of building parallel, ‘isolated roads for every car’,” said Sujith Nair, CEO, Beckn Labs. “They can also leverage Beckn’s adaptability to blend and combine diverse solutions together to create a whole new agentic experience for commerce, learning and livelihoods (ONEST), agriculture (VISTAAR), energy (DEG and UEI) and much more.”

Beckn Onix has already been successfully implemented in Uttar Pradesh, where Google Cloud supported the government in developing an Open Network Stack for Agriculture (ONA) that has engaged over 12,800 farmers, helping them increase their profitability.

Pramod Varma, Co-founder and Chief Architect of Networks Of Humanity (NFH), said, "Open networks powered by Beckn create value through massively interconnected yet unified systems for end users. Achieving true global scale requires this unification – a foundation built on interoperable protocols and standards. By building open networks with Beckn Onix, this vision becomes real, enabling seamless, trusted, cross-sectoral digital interactions, rapidly and effortlessly.”
