As India’s MSME ecosystem evolves beyond access to capital and compliance support, a new growth lever is coming into sharper focus: mentorship. Insights from Tide’s Bharat Women Aspiration Index (BWAI) 2.0 highlight that for women-led businesses, structured guidance and strong networks are emerging as critical requirements for sustainable scale.
The findings reveal that while women entrepreneurs are building resilient businesses across sectors, limited access to structured guidance and networks continues to affect their ability to scale sustainably. Around 86% women entrepreneurs reported lacking access to role models within their industry. At the same time, a mere 14% frequently participate in networking activities, restricting opportunities to learn, collaborate, and expand market reach.
The impact of this mentorship gap is tangible. Nearly 29% of respondents identify resource and mentorship constraints as key reasons for struggling to scale their businesses. Furthermore, 22% believe that access to credit alone is insufficient and that mentorship must accompany financial support to translate funding into measurable growth.
The data signals a broader shift in how entrepreneurial success is being defined. Women entrepreneurs are increasingly recognising that capital, while essential, cannot independently drive expansion. Structured mentorship, peer learning platforms, and visible role models play a critical role in strengthening decision-making, improving operational efficiencies, and enhancing long-term sustainability.
When ecosystems actively invest in mentorship frameworks through industry networks, structured guidance programs, and accessible community platforms, women-led businesses are better positioned to grow faster, improve survival rates, and participate more confidently in the formal economy.
As India continues to prioritise inclusive MSME development, strengthening mentorship access can serve as a powerful multiplier. Supporting one woman entrepreneur does not just uplift a single business; it creates ripple effects across communities, industries, and local economies.
The BWAI 2.0 findings reinforce a simple but powerful idea: empowering one woman with the right guidance can unlock opportunities for many others. Bridging the mentorship gap is not just about individual success, BWAI 2.0 highlights mentorship as multiplier for women-led growthit is about building a more inclusive, action-oriented entrepreneurial landscape for the future.
