An awareness programme on nuclear energy was organized in government Holkar Science College, Indore as part of a nation-wide campaign to generate awareness about the importance of energy and to dispel the misconceptions related to nuclear energy.
The topic of the programme was ‘Clean Energy, Clean Environment’ and it was organized on behalf of Nuclear Power Corporation of India, a Government of India undertaking. In all, about 270 students participated in the competition. The students’ work was judged by eminent personalities.
The college principal said on the occasion that energy had a very important role in the development of the country. Production of electricity from traditional resources of energy such as coal, petroleum products and gas was causing great damage to the environment and there was need to utilise other energy sources to produce electricity. Generation of electricity from nuclear energy did not cause much harm to the environment and there was need to use nuclear energy in a big was to produce electricity. It is being used by countries in the world.
On this occasion, informative material that aims at creating awareness about nuclear energy was distributed among the winning children, teachers and principal of the school. These included comics of ‘Budhiya’ series, developed by Amritesh Srivastava of NPCIL. Many such programmes are being organized in many states in India with an objective of creating awareness about clean energy and also removing misinformation about nuclear energy among the people.
