Ms. Anubha Shukla, Chief Commercial Officer and Head of BEEM
Husk announced the launch of a dedicated residential rooftop solar service for India called BEEM, which offers unrivaled customer service and state-of-the-art technology. A Husk fully-owned business, BEEM will target homeowners countrywide, leveraging Husk’s nearly two decades of expertise in solar system design, technology innovation, installation and service.
BEEM’s fully productized offering is designed to be suitable for the specific needs of homeowners. From correct system sizing to customized space usage, to access to generation data, BEEM offers homeowners a range of premium offerings for their particular use. Customers can easily understand their needs, finalize a product, and book purchase and installation – completely online and fully remotely. BEEM offers two initial products, Aura and Eternia, which include solutions for flat roofs prevalent in the majority of India. Additionally, through its partners, BEEM offers attractive low-cost financing options and provides comprehensive support towards subsidy and net metering.
“PM Surya Ghar Yojana’s subsidy, low-cost loans and 15-day simplified application process have created massive tailwinds for residential solar growth in India, but the industry remains slow-moving, fragmented, unstructured and mismatched to homeowners’ needs,” said Anubha Shukla, Husk’s Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) and head of BEEM. “BEEM not only addresses this mismatch, but does so at speed and scale.”
BEEM is initially targeting the states of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.
Under PM Surya Ghar Yojana, the Government of India (GoI) has targeted solar for 10 million households with a total of 30 gigawatt (GW) of installations expected by 2027. Until the launch of the scheme in 2024, residential solar had languished because of significant upfront investment, difficulty in sourcing credible suppliers, complexity in decision making about product fit, while installation, cost, process and quality assurance continued to be barriers for potential buyers.
PM Surya Ghar Yojana provides a simplified application process to subsidize installation of power plants so that the first 300kWh per month are free, with target disbursement in 15 days, as well as bank loans as low as 7% with no requirement of a credit score. The GoI has already invested heavily in awareness campaigns, and is expected to triple that investment to support uptake of residential solar.
“BEEM’s AI-powered digital platform simplifies the entire homeowner journey for going solar, the same way the iPhone revolutionized mobile commerce 15 years ago,” said Husk CEO and Co-Founder Manoj Sinha. “And Husk is not stopping there. We will leverage BEEM to evolve India’s distributed energy sector into virtual power plants (VPPs) that will democratize the energy ecosystem and put energy production and trading in the hands of people.”
