Goa Hosts Awareness Drive on Women’s Digital Empowerment

The Department of Information Technology, Electronics and Communications (DITE&C), Government of Goa, showcased its recently launched Mahila Digital Shashaktikaran Yojana during an awareness and training programme at Panaji. The initiative aims to equip rural women with essential digital skills, opening new avenues in employment, entrepreneurship, and access to public services.

The programme was graced by Hon’ble Minister for ITE&C and Tourism Shri Rohan A. Khaunte; Director, DITE&C, Shri Kabir Shirgaonkar; Director of Tourism, Shri Kedar Naik; Managing Director, GTDC, Shri Kuldeep Arolkar; Public Policy Head – India, Airbnb, Smt. Asmita Joshi; and Senior Coordinator, Self Employed Women’s Association (SEWA), Shri Tejas Raval.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Rohan A. Khaunte said, “Mahila is the backbone of our community. In line with Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji’s four pillars of development – Yuva Shakti, Mahila Shakti, Kisan Shakti, and Garib Kalyan, this Yojana empowers women from villages with the skills to earn, innovate, and actively participate in the digital economy. Training will be provided through Common Service Centres (CSCs) and Village Level Entrepreneurs, giving women a real opportunity to learn and earn.”

Shri. Kabir Shirgaonkar added that the programme enables women to confidently use smartphones, access online platforms, and navigate government services. “Soon, women-led Self Help Groups will also be trained in advanced drone operations, further expanding their livelihood opportunities,” he noted.

The Mahila Digital Shashaktikaran Yojana includes the Mahila Cyber Saksharta Course, a 12-hour programme comprising 2 hours of theory and 10 hours of practical training. On completion, participants receive an e-certificate.

- Use of Android devices and mobile applications

- App management and installation

- Online payments

- Social media navigation

- Cybersecurity basics

- Overview of e-commerce platforms

The scheme is open to Goan women aged 18 and above who have resided in the state for at least 15 years. 

Training will be conducted through empanelled IT Knowledge Centres (ITKCs), Common Service Centres (CSCs), and Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs) at local venues such as panchayat halls, schools, and community spaces.

By giving women the tools, knowledge, and confidence to engage in the digital economy, the Mahila Digital Shashaktikaran Yojana is strengthening communities and paving the way for a more inclusive and empowered Goa.
