Dastur Energy, a leading provider of clean energy solutions, participated in the 32nd Annual General Meeting of the American Chamber of Commerce in India (AMCHAM) held in New Delhi today. The event featured a panel discussion on "Meeting Net Zero Target - India Embarking on CCUS Mission," where Dastur Energy's President and CEO, Mr. Atanu Mukherjee, shared insights on how India and the U.S. can collaborate to accelerate India's net zero goals through Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) technologies.
The panel discussion brought together eminent speakers, including Mr. Atanu Mukherjee, CEO & President, Dastur Energy Pvt. Limited, Dr. V.K. Saraswat, Member of NITI Aayog, Government of India, Mr. Anil Bhatia, CEO of Emerson India, and Mr Ashish Modi, President of Honeywell, India.
The discussion highlighted the importance of India-U.S. collaboration in achieving India's energy transition goals and the significant role CCUS can play in this process. "India's commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2070 is a bold and ambitious goal that requires innovative solutions and international collaboration," said Mr. Atanu Mukherjee. "Dastur Energy is proud to be part of this crucial discussion and believes that CCUS technologies can be a game-changer in India's journey towards a sustainable energy future."
The panel discussion emphasized the potential of CCUS in reducing CO2 emissions from the industrial and energy sectors in India. According to estimates by the International Energy Agency, total CO2 captured from various industrial sectors needs to reach over 5 Gtpa by 2050 and double to over 10 Gtpaby 2070 to achieve the long-term net zero goal. This would require significant investments in CCUS technologies over the next few decades.
Dr. Vijay Kumar Saraswat, Member of NITI Aayog, Government of India, said, "Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) technologies will play a critical role in helping India achieve its ambitious net zero emissions target by 2070." He further expressed, "As a nation, we must prioritize the development and deployment of CCUS solutions across our industrial and energy sectors. Collaboration with international partners like the United States will be key to accelerating innovation, increasing deployment and driving down costs. NITI Aayog is committed to supporting policies and initiatives that promote CCUS and other clean energy technologies to secure a sustainable future for India."
The event also showcased the strong potential for India-U.S. collaboration in the energy sector. As two of the world's largest economies and energy consumers, India and the U.S. have a unique opportunity to work together in developing and deploying clean energy technologies, including CCUS, to address the urgent challenges of climate change and sustainable development. Dastur Energy's participation in AMCHAM's 32nd Annual General Meeting underscores the company's commitment to supporting India's energy transition goals and its belief in the power of international collaboration to drive innovation and create a more sustainable future.
