MG Hector Bookings Closed as Company sells 21,000 SUVs Since Launch
In what can be seen as a positive note for Indian Automobile industry, MG Motors – who launched its Hector SUV in India on June 4 – has now closed bookings for the vehicle. MG tells that it has recieved 21,000 bookings for the vehicle and it has only a capacity of producing around 2,000 cars every month at its Halol plant in Gujarat.
Hector was launched last month priced between Rs 12.18-16.88 lakh and had crossed its 2019 sale target in just three weeks. The top two variants Smart and Sharp have registered the highest demand, with over 50 per cent reservations for the petrol variant.
But those who want to buy the car need not be disappointed. The company has promised that it will increase production capacity to upto 3,000 per month gradually without compromising on quality. They will announce a date for restarting the bookings soon.
In a press release, Rajeev Chaba, MG Motor India President & MD said, ” Our first product, MG Hector, has received an overwhelming response and we are unable to cater to such high initial demand. We are, therefore, closing bookings temporarily as this will help ensure timely and orderly deliveries for our customers who have shown tremendous confidence in MG,”.
