Astrology in India is increasingly shifting from passive horoscope reading to real-time, personalised digital consultations, particularly during high-intent moments such as the start of a new year. New data from Astrotalk shows a 50% jump in overall query volumes in January 2026 compared to the same period last year, signalling growing reliance on on-demand astrology for everyday life decisions.

More than half of queries during the month were forward-looking and situational, focused on how the year ahead would unfold across love, career, finances and health, rather than on generic zodiac forecasts.

Love and relationships dominated, accounting for nearly 60% of all questions, ranging from marriage timelines to emotional uncertainty. A majority of users sought guidance on their personal relationships, with astrologers receiving repeated questions such as “When will I get married?” and “Will I have a love or arranged marriage?”

Career and financial concerns together made up around 28% of total queries. Among the most frequently asked questions was “When will I get a job?”, reflecting heightened anxiety around employment, business decisions and income stability at the start of the year.

“What we’re seeing is a fundamental shift in how people engage with astrology,” said Mr Puneet Gupta, Co-founder and CEO of Astrotalk. “Users are no longer treating astrology as something they check occasionally. They’re turning to it in real time, during moments of uncertainty, decision-making and emotional need. The rise in relationship-led and situational queries shows that astrology today is being used less as a prediction tool and more as a source of perspective and reassurance in everyday life.”

This demand for personalised, real-time guidance mirrors broader behavioural patterns observed across Astrotalk’s data. In 2025, the platform recorded a 50% year-on-year rise in job-related anxiety, driven by growing fears around artificial intelligence and career disruption. Questions such as “Is AI going to take my job?” featured prominently, highlighting rising concern over job security and long-term career stability.

The data points to a broader cultural shift: astrology is becoming embedded in the rhythms of daily life, less about predicting destiny, and more about helping individuals navigate uncertainty, plan ahead and make sense of change in real time.

The shift is also being driven by the immediacy and accessibility of digital platforms, which allow users to seek guidance at the exact moment questions arise. Unlike traditional astrology consumption, which was periodic and ritual-driven, today’s consultations are increasingly spontaneous and context-specific, reflecting how technology is reshaping even deeply cultural practices to align with fast-paced, decision-heavy modern lifestyles.
