Abhiyantriki, the annual technical fest of Somaiya Vidyavihar University’s K J Somaiya School of Engineering, took place in its Mumbai campus. This year’s theme, Reshaping Reality, focused on the futuristic world, aiming to inspire participants to challenge conventional boundaries and drive forward technological innovation.

The 26th edition of Abhiyantriki attracted over 10,000 students, professionals, and faculty members, who participated in various events. Major highlights included the Tech Expo, Internship Expo, and Auto Expo, along with new events like Startup Expo, Tech MUN and Summit. Notably, the Tech Expo featured an impressive showcase of weaponry and advanced equipment by the 15th Assam Regiment of the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force. The festival also included India’s Footprints in Astronomy, an exhibition presented by the Chamber for Advancement of Small and Medium Business.

The event was inaugurated by Major Ishan Krishna and Sahab Nilen Kom from the 15th Regiment of the Indian Army; Master Warrant Officer Saini and Sergeant Surender from the Indian Air Force; and Mr. K. Kumar, former Deputy General Manager of ISRO. President Nitesh Lele and Ms. Smita Lele from the Chamber for Advancement of Small and Medium Business also attended. Notable dignitaries included Shri Samir Somaiya, Chancellor of Somaiya Vidyavihar University, Lt. Gen. Kahlon; secretary SVV, Dr. V.N. Rajasekharan Pillai, Vice-Chancellor; and Dr. Suresh Ukarande, Principal of K J Somaiya School of Engineering. Keynote speeches were delivered by Mr. K. Kumar and Mr. Arif Khan, Chief Innovation Officer of Razorpay.

A key focus of Abhiyantriki was on real-world, innovative projects. Some of the standout entries included:

  • Robo Bionics Robots by TechnoArc

  • Humanoids

  • Vayushastra, an aircraft developed by FCRCE College Mumbai

  • Vishwa (Mars Rover) and Vayuputra (UAV for Payload Delivery) by VJTI College

  • Various Mega projects from K J Somaiya School  of Engineering: Redshift, TMRT, ETA, SSRP, Orion, Onyx and Robocon.

The Internship Expo offered students invaluable opportunities with companies such as Ubona Technologies, Lyondellbasell, Wolfx, Nirmal Bang Securities, and Flite Labs, with 100+ students participating and many securing internships in their fields. The festival also featured engaging Intra College tech competitions like Technovate, Technical Paper Presentation, Tech Quiz and Tech Hunt, promoting problem-solving skills among participants. The Tech MUN delved into the intersection of technology and diplomacy, discussing topics such as Ethics of Development of War Technology, Rise of BioTechnology and Global Health and many more. In addition to intense competitions, the festival included various fun activities and casual gaming events.

“This year’s Abhiyantriki was a resounding success, attracting over 10,000 participants and a diverse array of dignitaries from defence, engineering, and technology. Our technical fest aims to provide a platform for both internal and external projects, showcasing our mega projects that illustrate how our students are advancing technology through their innovative ideas,” Shri Samir Somaiya, Chancellor of Somaiya Vidyavihar University. He further noted, “These projects are designed to address real-world challenges, reflecting the university’s motto of ‘learning by doing.’

In his keynote address, Mr. K. Kumar, former Deputy General Manager of ISRO, stated, “Attending Abhiyantriki provided a glimpse into the future of engineering in India. The imagination and technical proficiency demonstrated by these students in transforming their visions into tangible solutions highlight the country’s promising future.”

Mr. Arif Khan, Chief Innovation Officer, Razorpay, praised the event, saying, “The innovations we witnessed at KJSSE reflect the immense potential of the next generation of engineers, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible through practical, real-world applications.”
