The Ministry of Textiles, Government of India is organizing a two-day National Workshop on the textile parks sanctioned under the Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks (SITP), in Surat on April 9 & 10, 2015.
The Workshop is being organized in line with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Make in India’.
Given its employment and export intensity, the textiles and apparel industry plays a significant role in realizing the vision of ‘Make in India’. To enable the industry to play its due role towards this, it is necessary to address some critical constraints which adversely affect the sector. Inadequate infrastructure is one such major constraint.
The Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks (SITP) of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India aims to fill this infrastructure gap. It seeks to do this by encouraging the industry to set up greenfield industrial parks with partial capital grant support from the Ministry.
SITP is one of the flagship schemes of the Ministry of Textiles. The workshop seeks to make the SITP scheme more effective, by:
- Identifying and sharing best practices in implementation of SITP
- Identifying areas of improvement and discussing strategy to incorporate such improvements in design and implementation of the scheme
- Providing opportunity to the State Governments to understand the benefit of the scheme in promoting textile ecosystem in their States
The workshop will also facilitate the participants to interact with local industry of Surat and visit successful textile parks.
The workshop will feature experience sharing by Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) of successful textile parks and representatives of State Governments on successful interventions by states. The participants will also deliberate on the critical success factors for SITP, such as financing of parks, State Government support, technological advancement and skill development initiatives.
The workshop is inaugurated and presided over by Minister of State for Textiles (I/C), Mr Santosh Kumar Gangwar.
