The market cap of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) listed on the BSE SME platform has crossed Rs 7,860 Crore as of yesterday's trade closing. There were around 20 companies which were actively traded.

There has been a lot more activity on the course these days with more companies listing, taking the total number to 65, according to Federation of Indian Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (FISME). Among firms waiting to be listed are Amsons Apparels, JLA Infraville Shoppers Limited, Naysaa Securities, and Powerhouse Fitness and Realty Ltd.

BSE commenced the SME platform in March 2012 and in this period of over two years, BSE has achieved more than 90 per cent market share, helping Indian SMEs create a market capitalisation of more than $1 billion.

The average IPO size on the BSE SME is close to Rs 9 crore per issue.

According to FISME, the BSE SME Platform offers an entrepreneur an investor-friendly environment, which enables the listing of SMEs from the unorganised sector scattered throughout India, into a regulated and organised sector.
