Jun 05, 2024 13:44 ISTModi Led NDA Gets Leading Seats While I.N.D.I.A. Is Hopeful to Form Govt With New Possibilities
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured 240 seats overall in the final tally of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Even though this was less than expected, the BJP continued to lead the opposition Congress, which won 99 seats.
Numerous noteworthy triumphs and upsets across a range of constituencies are represented in the results. Check out who won the most seats in the Lok Sabha in 2024: Rajnath Singh, PM Modi, Amit Shah, and Shankar Lalwani.By a margin of 1,52,513 votes, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has successfully defended his Varanasi seat in Uttar Pradesh, defeating Congress contender Ajay Rai.
The Home Minister, Amit Shah, defeated Congressman Sonam Ranambhai Patel in Gandhi Nagar with an astounding 7,44,716 votes.
The Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh, defeated Samajwadi Party candidate Ravidas Mehrotra by 1,35,159 votes to win the Lucknow seat for a third term in a row.
With a record-breaking 12,26,751 votes, incumbent MP Shankar Lalwani of Indore, Madhya Pradesh, was victorious in this election. He was matched up against Sanjay of the Bahujan Samaj Party. With two lakh votes, NOTA likewise set a record.
Known for her bold on-screen personas, Kangana Ranaut made an incredible political start. She defeated Congressman Vikramaditya Singh, running on a BJP ticket from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, by a margin of 74,755 votes.
BJP politician and former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, defeated Congressman Prataphanu Sharma with a margin of 8,21,408 votes while running for the Vidisha Lok Sabha constituency.
Additionally, Bunty Vivek Sahu of the BJP defeated Congressman Nakul Nath in Chhindwara by a margin of 1,13,618 votes.
Significant Opposition Wins: In Raebareli, Rahul Gandhi defeated Dinesh Pratap of the BJP by a margin of 3,90,030 votes, marking a significant victory. Along with Waynad's seat, he defeated Communist Party of India candidate Annie Raja by a margin of 3,64,422 votes.Shashi Tharoor defeated Rajeev Chandrasekhar of the BJP by 16,077 votes to win his record-breaking fourth term as the representative of Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala.
Important Setbacks for the BJPIn the Arrah Lok Sabha seat, Union Minister RK Singh of the BJP lost to Sudama Prasad of the CPIML by a margin of 59,808 votes.
Kalicharan Munda of the Congress defeated Union Minister of Tribal Affairs and Agriculture Arjun Munda with a vote count of 1,49,675.
Notably, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Smriti Irani, RK Singh, and Arjun Munda—four union ministers—lost in the election.
Following a close contest, Rajeev Chandrasekhar of the BJP lost to Congress incumbent MP Shashi Tharoor in Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency, which Tharoor won by a record margin of 16,077 votes.
With a margin of 1,67,196 votes, KL Sharma of the Congress defeated Smriti Irani, the sitting MP and Union Minister, to win the Amethi seat.
Asaduddin Owaisi, the leader of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), defeated Madhavi Latha of the BJP by a margin of 3,38,087 votes to win the Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat.
In the meantime, Ravindra Dattaram Waikar of the Shiv Sena won the 2024 Lok Sabha elections with the narrowest margin of victory—just 48 votes—over Amol Gajanan Kirtikar of the Shiv Sena UBT.
With a margin of 85,022 votes, Yusuf Pathan of the TMC defeated Congressman Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury for the Baharampur seat.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has won a third term, but the BJP will need the backing of other parties in his coalition, including Chandrababu Naidu of the TDP and Nitish Kumar of the JD (U). This is because the BJP is 32 seats short of the 272 majority, which is a devastating blow for the PM, who had hoped for a landslide victory in all 543 parliamentary seats.
The Bharatiya Janata Party did not win a majority on its own for the first time since it stormed to power in 2014 — considerably less than the record 303 seats it won in the 2019 election.
The opposition INDIA alliance declared they had achieved a semblance of success in response to the unexpected decline in the BJP's support. The Congress remarked that the election had been a "moral and political loss" for PM Modi.
