UP Government to Launch 'One District, One Product' Scheme on Jan 24th

One district, One Product scheme will identify to 75 districts according to assigned products, implemented under the supervision of a cell set up under Industrial Development Commissioner (IDC) monitored by district magistrates.

‘One District, One Product’ scheme is set to launch in Uttar Pradesh on January 24, which is also to be celebrated as UP Diwas for the first time.

This scheme will give distinct identity to 75 districts according to assigned products, implemented under the supervision of a cell set up under Industrial Development Commissioner (IDC) monitored by district magistrates.

The primary objective of the scheme is to raise the quality of the product to compete in international market and generating employment to craftsmen across the state.

So far the government has already identified products that are distinct to the different districts.

Benefit for MSMEs

The next leg of the program would be to come up with appropriate framework to help the MSMEs with branding, marketing and sales.

Another aim of the scheme is to encourage the MSMEs take up the local product and generate more employment spots for the local youth.

The MSME Department is in the process of compiling a list of products that are to be promoted under this scheme. So far the list of items identified under the scheme include glassware of Firozabad, leather products of Agra, locks of Aligarh, brassware of Moradabad, handloom of Mau and stoles of Barabanki.  Also patchwork of Rampur and terracotta industry of Gorakhpur are to feature in the list soon.
