In alignment with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's vision of digital transformation, platforms like e-Cantonment are revolutionizing cantonment administration, stated Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Sanjay Seth during the Defence Estates Day function held on December 16, 2024, in New Delhi. The event was organized by the Directorate General Defence Estates (DGDE).

On this occasion, Shri Sanjay Seth inaugurated the freehold property mutation module on the e-Chhawani portal. This citizen-centric platform offers a wide range of online services to cantonment residents, enhancing accessibility and convenience.

Highlighting the role of these digital initiatives, the Raksha Rajya Mantri noted that the platform provides 14 essential services online, including property tax payments, water and sewerage connections, business licensing, grievance redressal, and lease renewal. He further added, “Cantonment Boards are now delivering four fully automated services, such as Swajal for water management, automatic issuance of trade licenses, community hall booking, GIS-based sewerage connections, and online building plan approvals.”

Shri Sanjay Seth also underscored the department’s significant strides in its digital journey. Key achievements include the digitization of land records through the Raksha Bhoomi initiative and the implementation of the e-Raksha portal, which has effectively addressed encroachment-related challenges.

Reflecting on the evolution of the DGDE, Shri Seth pointed out that 2024 marks the centenary of the democratization of cantonment administration, a milestone that began with the enactment of the Cantonments Act, 1924.

He emphasized the pivotal role of the Defence Estates Service in India’s governance transformation. “From managing military lands during the British Raj to supporting India’s security and urban development, the Defence Estates Service has consistently embraced innovation and adapted to the nation’s evolving needs,” he remarked.

During the ceremony, Shri Sanjay Seth presented the Raksha Mantri Awards for Excellence, recognizing outstanding achievements in digital innovation across health, education, sanitation, public services, and land management.
