Delhi-Meerut Expressway to Be Operational Soon

The ambitious Delhi–Meerut Expressway is India's widest 96 km long controlled-access expressway, connecting Delhi with Meerut via Dasna in Ghaziabad in India to provide seamless travel from Delhi to Meerut as well as Hapur.

Delhi-Meerut Expressway's second section, from UP Gate till Dasna in Ghaziabad, is set to be commissioned in December this year, about five months ahead of its scheduled completion date. According to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), work on the 55 per cent completed Delhi-Meerut Expressway project will be finished by May 2020.

The ambitious Delhi–Meerut Expressway is India's widest 96 km long controlled-access expressway, connecting Delhi with Meerut via Dasna in Ghaziabad in India to provide seamless travel from Delhi to Meerut as well as Hapur.

"Once the new expressway is operational, the road commuters from Delhi will be able to reach Meerut in just one hour," NHAI sources said.

This is indeed a big project for ministry of road transport, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari laid the foundation stone for development of a six-lane corridor in Delhi of this mega project worth Rs. 50,000 crore. The project is also expected to improve the air pollution level.

The six-lane 31.3 km corridor will connect Akshardham to the Eastern Peripheral Expressway junction on Baghpat Road, an official statement read.

The alignment of the road will be from Akshardham - Geeta Colony - Shastri Park - Khazuri Khas - Delhi/UP border - Mandola - EPE Intersection, it said.

It will be developed in two packages - first a 14.75 km stretch from Akshardham to Delhi/UP border and the other 16.57 km stretch from Delhi/UP border to EPE Intersection. There will be a 19 km elevated section. The estimated cost of the project is Rs. 2,820 crore, it said.
