In an era where digital screens and urban influences increasingly shape children’s experiences, Cairn Oil & Gas, a part of the Vedanta Group, has taken a meaningful step to reconnect young minds with creativity, culture, and sustainability. As part of its CSR outreach, Cairn organized its first-ever three-day camp at Toratali Agchamua L.P. School in Naginijan, Jorhat, bringing together enthusiastic students from the local communities.
The camp engaged the students in a wide range of interactive and creative activities such as classical dance training, bamboo craft workshops, and life skills sessions. Students were encouraged to explore their creative potential while deepening their connection and responsibility towards preserving Assam’s rich cultural heritage.
The sessions were led by accomplished experts including Priyakshi Saikia, a renowned professional cultural dancer from Jorhat, Priyanka Saikia, a local art and craft expert and Netra Kachari, a bamboo craft specialist. Their mentorship provided students with hands-on exposure to traditional creative skills and inspired them to appreciate and preserve their cultural heritage.
One of the key highlights of the camp was an engaging Life Skills Session conducted by the Cairn, Vedanta team, focusing on career upliftment, knowledge sharing, and personality development. Through interactive and enjoyable activities, the session inspired the students to reflect on their aspirations, encouraged to build essential life skills, and gain the confidence to pursue their dreams. The session transformed the learning environment into a highly interactive, fun space for practical experience and self-discovery.
Priyakshi Saikia observed that the children showed remarkable enthusiasm and curiosity, noting that many had never tried classical dance before but quickly picked up the movements with grace. She emphasized the importance of helping young minds connect with cultural roots.
Priyanka Saikia highlighted that art and craft are more than hobbies, they are expressions of identity. She shared that watching the children create with their hands using locally sourced materials was a powerful reminder of the value of passing down traditional knowledge.
Masumi Gogoi, community representative and SHG member from Agchamua village shared, “Bamboo craft has always been an important and practical part of our culture here in Assam. However, with modernisation, fewer young people are learning these traditional skills. As parents, we didn’t want our children to lose touch with this valuable heritage. So, when we heard that Cairn was organising a bamboo craft workshop as part of their 3-day summer camp, we were truly delighted. Watching our children create beautiful bamboo fans and other items filled us with pride and joy. The entire camp was not just fun but also a meaningful and educational experience for our children. We are grateful to Cairn for helping keep our traditions alive through such thoughtful initiatives.”
Through this initiative, Cairn aims to promote experiential learning, cultural preservation, and sustainable living—ensuring that the next generation grows up with a strong sense of identity and responsibility rooted in tradition yet, ready for the future.
