Air Bubble Agreement Signed Between India & Sri Lanka

Travel between India and Sri Lanka will become easier in the near future as the two countries have finalised an 'Air Bubble' agreement. With this agreement, air travel between New Delhi and Colombo will become easier.

Notably, the current international flights are operated under the 'Air Bubble' agreements between India and other countries.

Experts are considering that this decision will bring lucrative opportunities for the travel and tourism sector, as well as business travel, will also prosper.

"As well see the whole world including India and Sri Lanka are fighting back for economic revival. The Air Bubble Agreement between India and Sri Lanka could become a huge booster for the two countries as trade and tourism depends heavily on travel," says Faiz Askari, Secretary-General of SMEStreet Foundation.  "We work towards creating a pro-business and pro MSME environment. For this, affordable travel and logistics could be a great asset. We welcome policymakers in the civil aviation space who are the brains behind this," says Mr Faiz Askari.

This special arrangement mandates certain prerequisites along with permissions that are needed for passengers to undertake travel.

At present, all international flights to and from India are suspended sans those which are specially allowed or are under the bubble agreements.

According to a tweet by the Ministry of Civil Aviation: "Attention travellers! India has finalised an air bubble agreement with Sri Lanka, making it the 6th such arrangement in SAARC region & the 28th in total. All the eligible passengers will be able to travel between the 2 countries in the near future. Travel safe!"

Almost all the domestic airlines operated to Sri Lanka from various Indian cities during the pre-pandemic era.
