A day after Tirath Singh Rawat's resignation as Uttarakhand's chief minister, the Bharatiya Janata Party legislators on Saturday (3 July) have elected Pushkar Singh Dhami, a two time MLA from Kumaon region's Khatima constituency, as the new CM of the hill state.
The BJP legislator party announced his name for the post of the chief minister of Uttarakhand in a meeting held at the party headquarters.
Dhami is a young leader who had been president of BJP youth wing in Uttarakhand.
The development comes after former CM Tirath Singh Rawat late on Friday (2 July) night tendered his resignation to Governor Baby Rani Maurya.
After being selected as the CM-elect, Dhami said that party had given a 'humble worker, a huge task'.
"I want to thank the party, our leaders...especially PM Modi. This will be a huge challenge for me but I will work with my party and fulfill all promises. I will continue to carry forward my party's good work," he was quoted as saying.
