‘Make In India’ So Far So Good
We always hear about Make in India from the government officials, policy makers, the picture looks great. But the real on-ground reality can only be unleashed when we talk to entrepreneurs who are actually getting effected by these schemes and programs. Ms Arati Naik, COO, Smartlink Network Systems Ltd in an exclusive conversation with Faiz Askari for SMEStreet shared her observation and overview on ‘Make In India’.
“No doubt ‘Make in India’ is a very ambitious campaign that the government of India has embarked upon. The IT hardware manufacturing Industry will have a major role to play here with Digital India Initiatives announced by the Government. The 9 pillars under the Digital India initiative are going to be huge demand generator. Demand arising out of Digital India initiative coupled with the existing demand in the domestic market is a huge opportunity for the domestic manufacturing industry. Government has rightly realized this and they have announced policies in order to seize the opportunity.” Arati said.
One of the important goals in the digital India initiative is targeting Net Zero Imports. This can be achieved by reducing the imports and increasing exports. Further adding to the point she also said, “The strategic location of our country in proximity to the ever growing African & middle-east countries which the Indian manufactures can target for exports. Therefore there is huge potential for the Indian manufactures to go for economies of scale thereby achieving net zero imports.”
While commenting on the overall manufacturing output, she said, “Further, increase in manufacturing activity is going to boost the local component manufacturing industry as there is robust plastic and metal component industry existing which can immediately contribute to localization. Thereby a complete required value chain getting developed in the country in about 4 to 5 years period with over 70% of BOM localization taking place in India itself. This is going to further compliment the service sector not only creating huge employment opportunities for youth but also resulting into multiplier effect.”
Smartlink is one of the few companies who want to spearhead the new government’s Make in India initiative. “We have been in the manufacturing sector for the last 20 years and have always contributed positively to the Indian economy by locally manufacturing products like the Routers, Modems, Networking Switches, Motherboards, Access points etc,” Arati also added, “Therefore I foresee that boost in manufacturing through Make in India is going to provide impetus to the complete economic chain of activities in the country.”
The company have already launched indigenously manufactured “DIGISOL” branded Routers “DG-HR3400-I” & “DG-BG4300NU-I” and Networking Switch “DG-FS1008DG-I” under the Make in India initiative and have been receiving overwhelming response from the market.
