The government of Kerala is will soon launch its first ever caravan park at Wagamon in Idukki district to boost MSMEs, farming, inland fishing, traditional industries, and handicrafts sector with the help of technology and tourism.
It will be launched under the Keravan Kerala project and is likely to kick-start before the monsoon season this year.
The State tourism department is expected to implement the projects while partnering with private entities.
As per the department reports, so far 154 applications have been received for 303 caravans from private agencies when applications were invited in October last year.
The permission for caravan parks is given at less-crowded places with natural beauty. A minimum of 50 cents of land is required for a caravan park.
Kerala is one of the few states to have marketed its natural beauty successfully to the leisure tourism sector. The state's unique heritage and cultural diversity has attracted tourists from around the world.
BBC Travel survey has rated Kerala as the top favourite tourist destination among foreign travellers in 2018.
