Environment protection as a subject has reached a great height. From a school going child to a responsible policymaker to almost everyone living in today’s urbanized or semi-urbanized India, this subject has taken a strong stance. Ironically this has happened after we as a country have been listed among top most polluted country in the world and our cities like Delhi and many others have topped this list.
As a result, this subject is getting discussed and brainstormed by many intellectuals and stakeholders in order to find out proper way out to safeguard our future.
This year, India is the global host of 2018 World Environment Day which will take place on June 5, 2018. With “Beat Plastic Pollution” as the core theme for this year's edition, the world is coming together to combat single-use plastic pollution. World Environment Day is a UN Environment-led global event, the single largest celebration of our environment each year, which takes place on June 5 and is celebrated by thousands of communities worldwide.
Another important and flagship challenge that the state of Delhi has been facing for last few decades is air pollution. To combat the problem of air pollution, the government has chosen IGL to utilize the capabilities of CNG as an alternative fuel. IGL was established in 1998 with a mission to ensure the distribution of CNG among various regions across north India.
This year on the occasion of World Environment Day, it is the first time that IGL has actively participated in this International event’s thematic session on the topic of Air Pollution on Clean Fuel.
Leading from the front Mr. Praveen Kumar Pandey -- Vice President Marketing of IGL, at a thematic session of Air Pollution on Clean Fuel very articulately brought out the critical and most relevant issues that are affecting the environment from the aspect of air pollution.
Mr Pandey emphasized IGL’s approach towards controlling challenge air pollution through efficient distribution of CNG. He added, “Information can be converted into wisdom & wisdom aspires knowledge and Knowledge is the power which equipped citizens to control Air pollution by converting economic users friendly CNG-Compressed Natural Gas which is 60% cheaper compare to LPG or other sources of fossil fuels. The aim of distributing an effective and alternate fuel which is better in almost every aspect has a very strong appeal to the common masses.”
In a major landmark development, Transport Department of Delhi State has approved the 50% reduction of registration charges of CNG fitted vehicles.
Breaking News: Delhi to Offer 50% Discount on CNG Fitted Vehicles
Mr Pandey of IGL informed, “After continuous policy and thought leadership influence exercise by IGL, the Transport Department of Delhi, the Government of Delhi has cleared in the recent state budget that 50% reduction or discount will be awarded on the registration charges to the buyers of CNG fitted cars in Delhi. An official notification on this subject is expected this month only.”
Such efforts by the government departments will motivate common users to select CNG vehicles over conventional fuel-run vehicles.
The execution of this strategy will ultimately help us as analysts to understand the near future of our positioning in the most polluted cities. Although, it may be a long journey we have taken a path to recover our losses. For air pollution control the role of CNG is the key and responsibility of an organization like IGL is crucial.
