Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi (IIIT-Delhi) concludes the first day of its highly anticipated flagship event, the Research Innovation and Incubation Showcase (RIISE) 2024, held on March 15th-16th, 2024. This year’s RIISE was combined with E-Summit, a collaborative endeavour aimed at empowering the next generation of innovators, leaders, and budding entrepreneurs.

RIISE 2024 brought together luminaries from academia, industry, and government, fostering a collaborative platform aimed at translating academic brilliance into tangible impact. Embracing the overarching theme of 'Build for India,' RIISE 2024 served as a rallying call for innovators, entrepreneurs, and changemakers dedicated to advancing homegrown solutions. Throughout the event, attendees engaged in thought-provoking discussions, enlightening talks, and interactive sessions, delving into a myriad of cutting-edge topics. From robotics and space technology to perspectives on time, history & modernity, and from Bharat AI to sustainable mobility, RIISE 2024 explored the forefront of innovation and its potential to address pressing challenges facing India and the world.

E-Summit, on the other hand, emerged as a mega conclave meticulously crafted to empower the next generation of innovators, leaders, and budding entrepreneurs. Catering to school and college students as well as startups, this dynamic event is set to be an immersive experience, boasting over 17 engaging activities across various domains. From start-up fairs to pitching sessionsinvestor talks to social entrepreneurship fairs, and hackathons, E-Summit promises a diverse range of opportunities for participants to showcase their talents, exchange ideas, and forge invaluable connections in the entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Notable highlights from the event included:

Computational Gastronomy Showcase: Attendees witnessed the fusion of technology and culinary arts as experts explored the potential of making food computable, reducing carbon footprints, and leveraging databases like Flavour DB and Recipe DB to create nutritious meals. Demonstrations from projects such as Diet RX, Spice R, Ayurveda Informatics, and Ratatouille captivated audiences, showcasing the intersection of gastronomy and technology.

One Delhi App Integration Project: IIIT-Delhi showcased its groundbreaking project aimed at integrating metro ticketing systems with other modes of transport, promising seamless connectivity for commuters across the city. This initiative represents a significant step towards enhancing urban mobility and accessibility.

Social Impact Initiatives: IIIT-Delhi demonstrated its commitment to driving social change through entrepreneurship and technology. Prototypes displayed during the showcase included drone technology for the agriculture sector, addressing national security concerns, and healthcare solutions aimed at making diagnostics and treatments more affordable and accessible.

Additionally, in the section 5G/6G, focusing on powering India's digital transformation through enhanced web connectivity, a groundbreaking discussion emerged surrounding the integration of solar panels for network transformation using Light Fidelity (LiFi) technology. A prototype demonstration underscored the potential of this innovative approach to not only leverage renewable energy but also revolutionize network connectivity, paving the way for a more sustainable and efficient digital infrastructure in India.

Bharat AI: The event highlighted the role of AI in solving real-world problems and developing niche products tailored to the needs of the masses. IIIT-Delhi showcased innovative AI solutions designed to address the diverse challenges faced by modern-day India.

Drone Innovation Lab: Attendees had the opportunity to witness the cutting-edge advancements in drone technology at IIIT-Delhi's Drone Innovation Centers, showcasing the institute's dedication to technological innovation and research.

RIISE 2024 showcased groundbreaking initiatives in Advanced multicore systems, highlighting the development of indigenous high-performance computing platforms. This theme underscored India's commitment to technological advancement, showcasing innovations aimed at enhancing computational capabilities and driving progress in various sectors. Perspectives on Time, History, and Modernity sessions provided thought-provoking insights into the interplay of lived experiences, clock time, and historical narratives shaping the modern world. Engaging discussions explored how historical contexts inform contemporary perspectives, offering valuable perspectives on societal evolution. Additionally, Robotics and Space Tech presentations highlighted advancements in automating crucial tasks and unlocking new frontiers in space exploration. Lastly, the theme of Bridging theory and practice emphasized the importance of building a strong foundation for innovation by integrating academic research with practical applications. Participants demonstrated how theoretical knowledge can be translated into real-world solutions, driving tangible progress and societal impact.

Mr. Jaswinder Chadha, President & CEO of Axtria, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Speaking to the audience, he remarked, "Congratulations to IIIT Delhi on organizing RIISE. It is encouraging to interact with the brilliant young minds and learn about their work in AI, Coding, Robotics, and Quantum Computing." Mr. Chadha emphasized, "I am delighted to see the passion to innovate and Build for India. My word of advice to young researchers and innovators: try to see the problem that no one can see and identify a solution. India has an opportunity at hand since we are good at many fronts - software, healthcare, entrepreneurship, telecom, social sector. Now is the time to be the best in a few of those areas!"
