The Healthy Indian Project (THIP), India’s leading health literacy and misinformation-fighting platform, has received the coveted Direct Insurance Broker (Life & General) license from the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI). This approval empowers THIP to distribute insurance products directly through its platform and community channels, marking a strategic expansion into the health insurance ecosystem.

With this license, THIP will now offer insurance products from top Insurance providers, beginning with health and term life insurance, curated in collaboration with leading insurance providers. The move complements THIP’s core mission of improving health literacy across India by embedding protection solutions within its trusted information network.

Founded with a commitment to making credible health information accessible to all, THIP has spent the last few years building condition-specific communities and deploying expert-reviewed educational content to guide users through complex health journeys. The introduction of insurance services builds on this foundation, aiming to bridge the understanding gap around health insurance—a space often marked by jargon, confusion, and low awareness.

Ankita Srivastava, General Manager – Strategy and Growth at THIP, said, “This broking license marks a strategic milestone in THIP’s evolution. We’ve spent years building deeply engaged, health-focused communities across India, and now we have an opportunity to serve them more holistically. Our mission has always been to empower people to make informed health decisions. Health insurance is a critical part of that journey. By integrating curated insurance offerings with our educational tools and community insights, we aim to demystify health insurance and make it not just accessible—but truly understood. This expansion will also add a robust revenue stream to our business, allowing us to grow sustainably while staying rooted in our commitment to public health.”

Over the coming months, THIP plans to roll out contextual and condition-specific insurance solutions, personalized based on user needs, health content consumption, and community behavior. From maternal health coverage to chronic condition riders, each product will be introduced with educational interventions, ensuring users understand not just the benefits, but the value of the protection they are buying.

This integrated approach aligns with THIP’s broader strategy to become a 360-degree health empowerment platform—offering trusted information, expert-driven content, support communities, and now, actionable financial protection.

Founded in 2019 by entrepreneur Sudipta Sengupta, THIP is a bootstrapped startup that focuses on building communities around specific health conditions and building health literacy around them. With this expansion, THIP joins the growing league of mission-led health techs using technology and education to close the access and awareness gap in India’s healthcare landscape.
