Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs (Independent Charge) Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said he will discuss with Finance Minister Arun Jaitley about the concern expressed by Beedi , Textiles, Cinema and Granite industry on Goods and Service Tax (GST).
Speaking at the awareness programme on GST, organised by the Institute of Chartered Accounts of India here yesterday, Mr Naqvi said that the government would work for the smooth implementation of the GST. He said it took almost 17 years for implementing the GST.
The NDA government held series of meetings with state governments and different institutions in the last three years for implementing GST, he said. Union Minister of State (I/C) for Labour and Employment Bandaru Dattatreya said that the GST roll-out was a historic moment and it is like the country achieving economic and tax freedom.
Mr Dattatreya said with the roll out of GST, 17 types of taxes was abolished and the tax system was changed into an integrated manner. There were nearly 1500 slabs in tax system and now it has brought down to 4, he said.
Local BJP MLA Ch. Ramachandra Reddy, Telangana State GST & Excise Commissioner Somesh Kumar, Income Tax Commissioner M. Srinivas also spoke. Representatives of the business entities and general public in large number participated in the meeting.
