In a comprehensive and serious cluster based approach towards enabling the Indian MSMEs, the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) is planning to launch 10 Mega Clusters and separate clusters for MSME Defence suppliers.
According to published media reports, the government would earmark Rs 100 crore for each cluster. However, the cities and the sectors for the Mega Clusters have not been decided yet.
This Ministry has already been implementing Micro and Small Enterprises-Cluster Development Programme (MSE-CDP) for the benefit of clusters of Micro and Small Enterprises all over the country.
But these are small clusters with an investment of Rs 10 crore on each.
The official further informed that the Ministry is working to set up a separate cluster for Defence suppliers.
The directive to set up cluster for defence suppliers has been given by the PMO.
The discussions about the plan were held at a meeting conducted by DC-MSME. The meeting was held with the industry association on budget allocation for the sector.
The cluster development initiatives include capacity building of the cluster members, technical exposure, setting up of Common Facility Centre, Infrastructure Development, etc. for holistic development of clusters.
