Remember Micromax? Once the leaders of entry level smartphone category, this 'Indian' brand is sort of an afterthought for many of us. But if you have kept up with the brand, you would have known how in past few years its diversified into home electronics. The Gurugram-based company has been selling TVs, washing machines and ACs.
In line with this, the company has launched three new Android TV series and two fully automatic washing machines on July 9 in Delhi. The new TVs available in sizes ranging from 32 to 55 inches will be priced between 13 and 43 thousand rupees. There are multiple variants which feature between 1 and 2 GB rams and 8 and 16 GB roms.
The fully automatic washing machines - which follow the success of their semi-automatic lineup from last year - are available between 6 and 8 kg.
While the new products were certainly exciting, what piqued our interest at SMEStreet was the announcement by company's director Mr Rohan Agarwal that the company will soon launch (mostly) made in India ACs. Micromax has multiple manufacturing units in the country but these ACs will be made at their Bhiwadi plant in Rajasthan as the Bhiwadi cluster is most-self-sufficient in enabling manufacture of ACS. He announced that only few components will now be sourced internationally and rest of the AC in entiriety will be a Make-In-India effort which is good news for Bhiwadi's MSMEs.
Commenting on the launch, Mr Agarwal said, “Micromax, since its inception, has always stood for democratising technology at affordable price points. It has been our constant endeavour to understand the evolving needs of our consumers and offer the best of technology to cater to those needs. Taking that a step further, today we have announced a range of two new products in the consumer durables segment, with an aim to redefine the entertainment experience and everyday solutions for the Indian consumer. The Google Certified Android TV is meant for those who want a larger than life entertainment experience by being packed with multiple compelling features and the fully automatic washing machine aims to make everyday solutions simpler and hassle-free. We look forward to the response from our consumers and are committed to grow this category further by consolidating our leadership position in the segment in India.”
In response to our query on after sales service and support, he also revealed that the company has nearly 800 service points which cover thousands of pincodes across India.
