Magellanic Cloud Ltd., through its wholly owned subsidiary Provigil Surveillance Limited, has secured a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) from Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) for the implementation of Video Surveillance Systems (VSS) across 441 D & E category stations and the augmentation of existing systems at 43 major stations (Categories A1, A, and B) under Southern Railway. Valued at approximately ₹85 crore, this large-scale project aims to strengthen passenger safety through a cyber-secure, AI-enabled surveillance infrastructure across the railway network.

This order follows earlier project wins, including a ₹32 crore LoA from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for AI-based surveillance on highways and a ₹2.25 crore LoA from South Central Railway. Collectively, these back-to-back achievements amount to nearly ₹120 crore, cementing Magellanic Cloud’s position as a leader in building safe, smart, and digitally enabled infrastructure.

Transforming India’s Transport Security Landscape

With 23 million passengers travelling on Indian Railways daily and over 30 lakh vehicles using toll plazas, the scale of India’s transport network demands next-generation safety and monitoring systems.

Southern Railway Advances Security with AI-Driven IP-Based CCTV Deployment

  1. IP-Based CCTV Deployment – High-definition IP CCTV cameras installed across stations and RPF/GRP posts for enhanced situational awareness.
  2. Robust Networking Infrastructure – Seamless connectivity through advanced networking equipment, enabling uninterrupted real-time monitoring.
  3. AI-Powered Surveillance – Video Management Servers with AI-based Video Analytics and Facial Recognition Software (FRS), backed by scalable storage for anomaly detection and rapid incident response.

Provigil Surveillance Limited has fully aligned with Railways specifications and stringent cybersecurity standards, this upgrade marks a major leap in passenger safety and operational reliability. By combining intelligent analytics, real-time facial recognition, and centralized video management, Southern Railway is setting new benchmarks for secure and smart railway operations across India.

At a national level, scaling such systems across 7,000+ stations could fundamentally redefine railway security and restore passenger confidence in rail travel.

AI-Based Audit System at the NHAI Toll Plazas

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is strengthening oversight at toll plazas after uncovering revenue leakages from unauthorised cash transactions. In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari highlighted instances where toll operators diverted payments outside the FASTag and Toll Management System (TMS) framework using handheld PoS devices or by charging unaccounted fees from overloaded vehicles. He affirmed that while the FASTag-based Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system handles over 98% of transactions securely, certain loopholes have been exploited. Strict actions—including termination of contracts, forfeiture of bank guarantees, and blacklisting of defaulting agencies—have already been taken to restore accountability.

Minister Gadkari further stated that “NHAI is also considering the installation of audit cameras at high-value toll plazas to independently monitor the accurate count and classify vehicles using Artificial Intelligence (AI).” This move aligns with the government’s broader vision of transparent tolling, barrier-free expressways, and enhanced revenue assurance. Alongside pilots of FASTag and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR)-based cashless tolling, AI-powered audit systems will ensure accuracy, transparency, and efficiency in toll operations. Provigil, leveraging its expertise in AI-driven video analytics, is committed to supporting this national initiative—delivering solutions that uphold the government’s vision for seamless, secure, and future-ready highways.

“These back-to-back project wins of about ₹120 Cr highlight our strong capabilities in delivering large-scale, AI-powered surveillance solutions that meet the highest standards of safety and cybersecurity. With the Railways and NHAI projects as milestones, we are confident of expanding our footprint into airports, metros, and smart city projects, positioning Magellanic Cloud as a trusted partner in building safer infrastructure for India and beyond,” said Joseph Sudheer Reddy Thumma, Global CEO & MD, Magellanic Cloud Ltd.
