The Indian Texpreneurs Federation (ITF) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the National Skill Development Council (NSDC) to train 50,000 new mill workers.

NEW DELHI: The MoU was signed in Kanpur on Monday in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Skill Development Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy, said Prabhu Damodaran, Secretary, ITF.

The members from the various spinning mills, under the Prime Minister Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) version II scheme, will train the fresh workers.

Prabhu said that this scheme would generate employment for new workers.

“Member mills of ITF will train 50,000 fresh workers in 15 job categories from January-December 2017 and provide new employment opportunities to 90% of them on the mill campus” said Secretary, ITF.

He also added “Tamil Nadu textile-manufacturing sector will create a robust eco-system of proper and uniform training across the industry in terms of work methodology”.

According to him such training will help the industry (related MSMEs) to improve the competitiveness of textile sector and also strengthen the 'Make in India' initiative.

“The training modules followed across India for a specific job role. Already 83 mills have applied for training provider status and created infrastructure for trainers, while another 52 mills will join the list from January” said Damodaran.
