The Indian Institute of Management Jammu concluded the Mid-Career Leadership Development Programme (Batch-I) for officials of the Maharatna company, Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL), with a grand valedictory ceremony held on 09 January 2026 at the Dharma Classroom, Vedanta MDP Centre, Academic Block, Jagti Campus. Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu presided over the valedictory ceremony. Shri Atanu Mukherjee, General Manager, Academic, Central HRD and Senior Faculty Member, Management Training Institute (MTI), SAIL, graced the occasion on online mode along with other officials from SAIL.

Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean Faculty and Research, IIM Jammu. The five-day programme was conducted from January 05 to 09, 2026, and was curated under the leadership of Prof. Sanjay Gupta, Dr. Sarbjit Singh, and Dr. Chinmaya K. Swain as Program Directors, IIM Jammu. 

Prof. B. S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu, highlighted the importance of building meaningful professional connections, emphasizing senior–junior relationships, and nurturing a strong sense of institutional belonging. He emphasized that structured training programs play a vital role in enhancing individual capability and contributing positively to organizational growth.  He acknowledged the national vision for skill development and capacity building under the leadership of Shri Narendra Modi Ji, the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, by creating a dedicated ministry on skill development to strengthen India’s human capital ecosystem. Drawing from his extensive academic and leadership experience, he underlined the value of a positive mindset, self-discipline, continuous learning, and passion-driven institution building. He also spoke about the importance of innovation, convergence of efforts, hybrid learning models, and alignment with the spirit of the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020) for expanding access, quality, and impact in higher education.  He encouraged participants to enjoy their work, pursue excellence consistently, embrace continuous improvement, and leverage learning for long-term professional and societal value.

Shri Atanu Mukherjee, General Manager (Academics & Central HRD) and Senior Faculty Member, Management Training Institute (MTI), SAIL, highlighted the importance of reaction-based evaluation and emphasized that conducting training programmes at emerging locations such as Jammu enhances scalability and wider outreach. He expressed gratitude to Prof. B. S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu; Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean Faculty and Research, IIM Jammu; and the entire faculty team for their knowledge sharing and effective programme execution. He noted that the programme is a journey-based, phased initiative and marks the beginning of a long-term learning engagement, with further exposure planned over the coming three months. Appreciating the strong work culture of the IIM ecosystem, he stressed the need for participants to assess return on investment in training by articulating tangible and intangible benefits and quantifying business outcomes through structured project reports. He underlined the importance of active participant engagement, behavioral development, and practical application of learning. He further shared that Phase II will include faculty handholding support from IIM Jammu and that the integrated learning approach will strengthen impact for subsequent batches, while expressing confidence in a fruitful association going forward.

Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean Faculty and Research, IIM Jammu, highlighted that the programme witnessed rich discussions from participants belonging to diverse functional domains, emphasizing the need for continuous innovation to bring freshness and drive overall development. He appreciated the commendable participation and noted that every individual carries unique potential. He further shared that the three-month structured programme, delivered through multiple learning episodes, aims to sustain long-term capability building. He also acknowledged the support of Shri Sanjay Dhar, Executive Director, HR–L&D, SAIL, Shri Rizwan Ahmed Siddiqui, DGM-HR_L&D, SAIL and Shri Atanu Mukherjee, General Manager, I/c (ACADEMIC), CENTRAL HR-L&D & IT, Senior Faculty Member, SAIL, encouraging the participants to continue creating impactful contributions.

Dr. Sarbjit Singh, Program Director, IIM Jammu, reflected that the programme began five days ago on a cold morning and concluded on a cold evening, symbolizing a meaningful learning journey. He highlighted that Phase I focused on connecting with participants, Phase II will continue online engagement, and Phase III will concentrate on strengthening decision-making capabilities.

The ceremony concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Prof. Sanjay Gupta, Program Director, followed by the national anthem, marking the culmination of the first phase of the training program.

The Mid-Career Leadership Development Programme (Batch-I) for officials of the Maharatna company, Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) aimed to enhance managerial competencies, strategic decision-making, and leadership effectiveness among emerging professionals, reaffirming IIM Jammu’s role in building future leadership capacity for industry and public institutions. The training program is being coordinated and executed by the office of IIM Jammu Executive Education and Consultancy.
