India Cellular & Electronics Association (ICEA) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Government of Uttar Pradesh to facilitate investments in Uttar Pradesh as the electronics manufacturing and skill hub to cater to domestic demand and exports. This is the 3rd MoU signed with UP since 2015. The last 2 have been accomplished.

The Government of India has set a target to achieve USD 300 Bn of electronics manufacturing by 2025-26, out of which USD 75 Bn -100 Bn of electronics manufacturing is expected from Uttar Pradesh, showcasing the significance of the state in India’s vision to become a global electronics manufacturing hub.

Currently, UP is the third largest state economy with more than USD 200 billion GSDP and aspiring to become a USD 1 trillion economy. Moreover, UP is the largest exporter of consumer electronics in India with more than 196 ESDM companies and 55% of India’s total mobile component manufacturing units operating in the State. This has resulted in approximately 60% of the total mobiles manufactured in the country coming from the State.

To further strengthen its position in ESDM manufacturing, the Uttar Pradesh Electronics Manufacturing Policy 2020 is targeting investments of INR 40,000 crore and creating 4 lakh employment opportunities within the state by 2025. The Policy also aims to establish three Electronics Manufacturing Clusters, three Centres of Excellence, ESDM park for domestic and global investors, and attract investments in semiconductor manufacturing.

“Uttar Pradesh already has more than 60 percent of total manufacturing units of mobile phones and components. We are confident that with strategic outreach and support, UP can witness accelerated investments and growth of ESDM units. ICEA remains fully committed to supporting UP to become a global manufacturing hub in mobile phones and the entire electronics space. UP has to grow secularly in all verticals and eclipse Shenzhen as the Global Electronics Manufacturing Hub.’’ said Pankaj Mohindroo, Chairman, India Cellular & Electronics Association.

“The success of UP is synonymous with the nation’s progress. The state will need to gear up to become globally competitive in terms of infrastructure, ease of doing business, quality and cost of power, among other things. The amended Uttar Pradesh Electronics Manufacturing Policy is a step in the right direction.” added Mohindroo.

“The State of UP is working towards becoming a powerhouse of IT and Electronics. The IT and Electronics Department has been receiving interest and proposals for investments in electronics across the state. Our partnership with ICEA will further bolster our efforts.” said Arvind Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary – IT & Electronics, Government of Uttar Pradesh
