The government will celebrate July 1, 2019, as 'GST Day' to mark the second anniversary of the new indirect tax regime.
Union Minister for Finance, Nirmala Sitharaman will preside over as the Chief Guest of the event and Minister of State for Finance, Anurag Thakur will be the Guest of Honour, said Central Board of Indirect Taxes (CBIC).
India’s biggest indirect tax reform in the form of Goods and Services Tax (GST) will complete 2 years this July.
First introduced on July 1, 2017, the comprehensive dual GST replaced many Indirect Taxes in India and transformed India into "one nation, one Tax".
To make this tax reform more flexible and consumer-friendly, the GST Council has till date held 35 meetings wherein important decisions have been taken and recommendations have been provided to the government on issues like reducing compliance burden for taxpayers, providing sector specific relief measures, etc.
