Global Focus Towards Indian Supply Chain

Building cold chain is a critical element for the food processing industry. In India, cold chain is limited to some of the large players but majority players of this industry belongs to the SME segment. SMEs in food processing segment struggle with having low penetration of cold chain. Now, there is a positive news for such SMEs, several countries have offered cooperation to India in the field of developing cold chain, postharvest management to upscale the Indian agriculture and the food processing industry on the value chain.

Industry experts of this sector believe that this move will directly benefit MSMEs.  

A delegation of diplomats from embassies and high commissions in New Delhi representing respective Ministries of Agriculture called on Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh to know about the plans and policy of the new Government for cooperation in the agriculture and allied sector.

Agriculture Minister spelt out the priorities of the new Government which would focus on marginal and small farmers, skill development and new farm jobs etc. In an official statement issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India, it was said, “Diplomats from these countries expressed their desire to cooperate and further strengthen bilateral relations with India in the field of agriculture and offered their expertise in the field of cold chain development, postharvest management and overall development of Indian agriculture.”

Agriculture Secretary, Ashish Bahuguna and senior officers of the Ministry also participated in the discussions.

The diplomats invited Union Agriculture Minister to visit their respective countries for developing stronger relations. Agriculture Minister told diplomats that he is also looking forward for visits of their Agriculture Ministers to India to have purposeful and productive discussions for strengthening cooperation.
