Sharing is caring!

L&T Chairman Mr AM Naik was conferred the ‘Philanthropy Star of India’ by Hurun India, in recognition of his remarkable, sharply focused and sustained endeavour to contribute to the welfare of the underprivileged.

At a ceremony in Mumbai on 7 June, Mr Naik’s daughter-in-law, Ms Rucha Nanavati, received the award on his behalf from Ms Naghma Mulla (CEO, EdelGive Foundation), Mr Anas Rahaman Junaid (MD & Chief Researcher, Hurun India) and Ms Vidya Shah (Executive Chairperson, EdelGive Foundation).

Thanking Hurun India for the award, Mr Naik said, “The idea of giving and sharing must be inculcated and imbibed by more Indians to make our progress equitable. Philanthropy does not call for a lot of money, all it needs is the impulse to give – dil chahiye.” Mr Naik is recognised as the country’s most generous corporate professional, and topped the Edelgive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2022 in this category. He has earned this distinction for three years in a row for philanthropic activities spanning healthcare, education and skill-training. He spent Rs 142 crore on philanthropy in FY 2021-22, and had consistently spent similar amounts in the preceding years.

Mr Naik’s philanthropy has also won recognition from the highest quarters. In June 2022, Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi inaugurated the 500-bed Nirali Multi-speciality Hospital in Navsari, Gujarat. The Prime Minister had also inaugurated the Anil Naik Technical Training Centre in Kharel, Gujarat. This is one of the few such institutes in the region where admission is open to those unable to complete school education, thereby providing these dropouts avenues for gainful employment.

Later last year, the AM Naik School in Powai, Mumbai was inaugurated by the Home Minister Mr Amit Shah. Hurun is an international organisation that contributes to community service through the promotion of philanthropy, and by publicly recognising exceptional contributors. Mr AM Naik’s daughter-in-law, Ms Rucha Nanavati (second from left), receives the award on his behalf. Established in London in 1999, it was extended to India in 2012. Hurun India serves as India’s definitive voice in celebrating wealth creation, philanthropy, innovation and growth.
