Ajay Bhushan Pandey, GST, GST Return

For the month of January more than 55 lakh GST returns have been filed reported by GSTN Chairman Ajay Bhushan Pandey.

For filing initial GSTR-3B returns for a month, last date is 20th of the coming month though businesses can file returns with late fees.

It is also expected that the number of filed returns will increase further after the government release of GST collection figure in the later month as still some businesses are filing returns.

“The total number of 3B GST returns filed in the month of January till date is 55 lakh,” according to Pandey .

According to official data, in the month of December 56.30 lakh GSTR-3B were filed and total revenue earned was Rs 86703 while in the month of November 53.06 lakh returns were filed with total revenue of Rs 80808 crore and in the month of October 50.1 lakh 3B returns were filed with revenue of Rs 83,346 crore, while in September it was 42.91 lakh with revenue of  Rs 92,150 crore.

In November the GST Council, presided by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley including other State counterparts, had decided to cut the late filing fee so that businesses cope with the system and file returns even at a later date.

Now, Businesses with zero tax liability have to pay only Rs 20 late fee for delayed filing of return and for others the fees amount is Rs 50.
