Sharing his perspective on the question of 'How 2023 has been a significant year for India's journey towards carbon neutrality and net zero and the outlook for 2024', Arun Awasthy, President & Managing Director, Johnson Controls India responded, "2023 has marked a pivotal point for India's journey towards carbon neutrality and net zero. The groundwork has been laid for substantial climate action, with early signs of its effectiveness already emerging. The momentum for action continues to build across both regulatory and industry spheres. India's public pronouncements and reports project a 65% reliance on renewable energy by 2030, while the real estate sector has ambitiously committed to reaching carbon neutrality by 2050, significantly ahead of the national target. Notably, roughly 70% of India's building stock is yet to be constructed, presenting an exceptional opportunity to develop them sustainably."Sharing an overview on expectations from 2024, Mr Arun said, "On the cusp of 2024, the urgency for demonstrable progress is undeniable, and businesses and enterprises must rise to the challenge. They need to evolve beyond simply factoring sustainability into their growth formulas and towards a model driven by it. This imperative is heightened by the rising expectations of customers and investors across the value chain who seek to partner with brands aligned with their environmental values. In essence, incorporating sustainability into the very fabric of business operations will no longer be solely about moral responsibility, but a vital strategic element for sustainable growth. As we advance along the net-zero timeline, we anticipate the momentum towards carbon neutrality to intensify, leading to a more profound and enduring impact."
