K J Somaiya Institute of Technology (KJSIT), Mumbai, an esteemed autonomous engineering institute, successfully concluded a six-day offline Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Fortifying the Digital Frontier: Cybersecurity Strategies for Threat Landscapes” last week. Funded by the AICTE Training and Learning (ATAL) Academy, the programme was hosted by the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (AI-DS) at the KJSIT campus in Mumbai.

The programme saw enthusiastic participation from over 50 faculty members and researchers across AICTE-approved institutions in Mumbai. The programme featured interactive lectures, live demos, case studies, and hands-on workshops, covering key areas like penetration testing, cybercrime investigation, network security, and emerging threat landscapes. With a focus on providing in-depth exposure to advanced cybersecurity strategies, techniques, and tools, the programme aimed to equip faculty members to integrate the latest industry practices into their curriculum, research, and institutional frameworks.

The programme was inaugurated by Major Krishan V. (Retd), who delivered a keynote address on the importance of national cyber awareness and institutional preparedness. He highlighted the need to build resilience in educational spaces as cybersecurity continues to evolve into a strategic national priority.

“One area often overlooked is the crucial role cybersecurity plays in educational institutions. Every paper you write, every thesis you submit, is a potential target. That’s why top-tier academic institutions today are regarded as high-value cybersecurity entities”, said Major Krishan V. (Retd).

One of the key highlights of the programme was an industrial visit to a leading cybersecurity and fintech company, where participants engaged with professionals at a Security Operations Centre (SOC). The visit bridged the gap between academia and industry, providing participants with first-hand exposure to real-world cybersecurity practices and enterprise-level implementation.

In his remarks, Dr. Vivek Sunnapwar, Principal, KJSIT, stated: “Cybersecurity isn’t just an industry concern, it’s an academic responsibility. When faculty are trained to lead in this space, they shape the next generation of digital defenders. This initiative reaffirms K J Somaiya Institute of Technology’s commitment to academic excellence, national capacity building, and future-ready education.”
